New Orleans airport. Security line. My daughter and I had a third passenger.
An 8-pound teddy bear golden doodle named Molly. Picked her up in Alabama.
We didn't really know what we were doing with a dog in tow.
Apparently at security the dog comes out of the crate. We took her out. She got so nervous when we put her right back in, she immediately peed all over the crate. We had packed plenty of pads.
Three boys were waiting at home in California. My wife couldn't believe we had a dog. I couldn't either.
Molly fit into the family within a few days. We're all still figuring out all the additional responsibilities.
The first night she whimpered and cried for her mom and her littermates. At 2:00 in the morning I was down on the floor in front of her crate, talking to her quietly. She slowly relaxed, settled down. Kept peeking up to make sure I was still there. Then she fell asleep.
Sleep has been broken every night since. Potty breaks outside. Comfort when she needs it.
Yesterday morning we were listening to this week's Bible section on Lampway, the family Bible app I released on Google Play a couple weeks ago. I was holding Molly. My voice was coming from the speaker next to the tablet. I narrate the audio.
Up at me. Over to the speaker. Back at me.
She already knew my voice. Couldn't figure out why it was coming from over there.
She learned it on the floor at 2:00 in the morning. I think Molly will be really good for our family.
"And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it." Isaiah 30:21
Knowing a voice usually starts the way it did for Molly.
Well the good thing is... the voice you learn in the hard hours is usually the one you recognize later, even when it comes from somewhere you don't expect.
What voice did you learn to trust before you knew where it was coming from?

Good Thing Monday goes out every Monday. One story, one good thing.
Tell me your good thing this week. I read every one.
